WA to receive $237M in Meta’s historic $17B settlement
The briefing
Washington state will receive $237 million as part of a $17.1 billion multistate legal settlement with Meta over allegations that its social media platforms intentionally harmed youth mental health. In response to the settlement, Meta agreed to overhaul its Instagram and Facebook apps by capping hours for young users, blocking nighttime usage, and limiting social comparison features. Washington Attorney General Nick Brown praised the agreement as a significant consumer protection victory against a major tech company.
